Genesis 47

Genesis 47

Joseph gets his father and brothers settled into Goshen with the Pharaoh’s permission, who even asks that they tend to his own livestock. Joseph provides for them and settles them in the best land.

The famine continues. Joseph sells the food he had Egypt save to keep people alive. When they have no more money they give up their land and agree to live in servitude. Only the priests are exempt, since they already get food from the Pharaoh.

Lastly, Jacob (being called Israel again) is ready to die, calls to Joseph and wants to be buried in the land of his own fathers, not Egypt.

This seems to be leading to “God is good” by proxy. It all seems that Joseph and the Pharaoh are the saviours of the people here.
