Genesis 42

Genesis 42

Here it comes.  The whole build-up was for this.

Back down on the farm, the famine was starting to hurt Jacob’s household. He sent 10 of the brothers to Egypt to buy grain, but kept the youngest, Benjamin, who was Joseph’s brother (I assume by the same mother, since they are all brothers by Jacob).

When the got there, Joseph was the one selling the grain, but they didn’t recognize him. They bowed down to him and he recognized them and thought of his dream.

He accused them of spying on Egypt and when they protested he threw them in jail. He said the only way he would believe them is if they brought back the last brother, Benjamin. He sent 9 of them off, keeping Simeon, with grain and sneaking their money back to them. When they discovered the money they got afraid. Reuben saw this as punishment for what they did to Joseph.

Jacob was afraid too and wouldn’t sent Benjamin, despite Reuben’s promises to take care of him.
